Beat History

The Universe: Beat History
Name: Clay Christensen

Beat: BYU Sports and Recreation

Desk: Sports

Beat Overview: The Sports beat covered BYU sports and clubs, as well as recreational activities, events, and businesses in the surrounding area. Many of the stories this term focused on the surrounding area, as there are not a lot of BYU sports to cover during this time of the year. A lot of stories were recaps of games, or events surrounding BYU teams or players. For example, the BYU men’s rugby team won the national championship this season and that was covered extensively, including a profile of a few of the players on the team. A story was also done on the Provo Recreation Center and its one-year anniversary of being in operation. The Sports desk was able to cover not only the sports on the field, but those in the community as they related to the university.
